For what it is, it's a fun little metroidvania-style game about exploring a randomized house layout, finding blueprints for new gear, crafting your base and leveling up your character by investing "bolts (the ingame currency)" in different parts of your character, changing the visuals and stats of how you look. Now that sounds great! And I bet it was, on paper. The truth however appears to be that while the idea is quite good and they really aren't THAT far off the mark with it, the mistakes that are made are big enough for me to not want to finish this game, despite playing it for nearly 15 hours. So what's bugging me about this otherwise brilliant-sounding game? The randomization is TOO MUCH! While I love the way it is applied to the layout of the world, it also appears to be imposed not only on quest rewards (giving me an insane weapon right at the start of the game) but also in the order you recieve blueprints. Now these things might not sound like a huge deal to you, until you realize how the blueprint system works, needing you to collect all the previous blueprints for a weapon before you can craft it. Not checking what the player already is in posession of, means you end up waiting forever to get that one last blueprint you need, then immediately skipping through all of the weapons that you COULD have had much earlier, completely throwing out what would otherwise have been a really cool sense of constant progression. It doesn't help that the story is very messy, characters repeating each other constantly and a good dose of pseudo-science thrown in for good measure (I realize this is a matter of taste, but if you insist on using scientific terms, at least make sure you aren't just saying nonsense, you can make still make it SOUND probable). And then there's the base-building which seems completely arbitrary and not transparent at all. The causes and effects in play are really non-transparent, making it feel like you invest in-... Well that's still hard to really tell.To top it all off, most of the boss fights are really suffering from frustratingly poor mechanics, like a tree that grabs you with no means of escape, yet it still hits you with full damage, or a flying guy who goes off into some corner of a HUGE room with little to no indication of where he is, leaving you with three-four seconds to poke him until he flies off again. It's been a while since I wrote any reviews but I felt like this game needed one - not because I don't think you should hold off on buying it forever necessarily, but because there's so much untapped potential in this title and it frustrates me to no end. I want to see this title correct all these mistakes because I know that it'll be a genuinely great game once past that. That's easier said than done of course, but it doesn't keep me from hoping just a little bit that this might get through to the developers and they'll think about how they can improve the game, maybe starting by removing the base-building mechanic in favor of something MUCH simpler and more comprehensive.. The game is fun but there are a couple issues:- Input lag (occasional but noticeable with an Xbox One controller)- Enemies spawning on top of you when entering a new area- Build times for buildings (should be reduced since it's very noticeable when marathon gaming)- Text errors everywhere (It looks like the game doesn't display apostrophes)- Recipe drops (drops should be changed so that they drop in order of upgrade paths rather than pretty random)- Ninja enemies stick way too closeIf you like rogue-likes, give this game a try. It's not too difficult and the lore entries are entertaining (albeit a bit cliche).Update **October 28, 2016**The dev team has shortened the building times greatly. I like this change (albeit a bit drastic). The addition of a visible crafting tree for weapons helps greatly as well. No longer will you build a weapon that may have no upgrade path.. Other than Brand's horrible voice acting, I can actually play it well. Except for the dying part of course.Nuts\/10, for you cannot survive without it.I made a playthrough about it earlier: https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tqNKo5W_Hzc. The game is bad and full of errors. Maaaan you really had me in a roguelike mood but the bugs and the grinding chipped away at my patience. Here you beat a boss, now do 10-15 more runs before you can even see the door to the next one. No thanks.Points for making an enemy out of that balancing plastic eagle I had as a kid.. Good game, i have a lot of fun playing this game. It still needs some patch to become great game.. Having a lot of fun with this one. Addictive, lots of weapons and gear, leveling system, fun and varying enemies, quests and allies to complete\/find, a base to build up and defend, procedurally generated map that changes if you die, lots of replayability, enjoyable story (love the diary pages), I could probably go on.My only complaint centers on how you upgrade the base... I fel like it should be as days pass, not as time passes. 5.5 hours for me to upgrade the workbench.... I mean, come on.. A hidden gem !. Nice Game!I recommend this!Make Viet Nam cool!
